ANHAD (Act Now for Harmony and Democracy) was formed in the first week of March 2003 in response to Gujarat Genocide 2002. ANHAD is an initiative of experiments aimed at rebuilding lives through peace, justice, equality, religious tolerance and resistance to divisive forces. As a societal response it encompasses responses at various levels – the individual, the groups and the community.
Through its everyday and long-term engagements it hopes to change the social, economic, cultural and political fabric of the society. Initially it meant engaging in work for peace during ‘peace’ by creating critical thinking and awareness among the youth and various civil society organizations. By various activities at local, national and international level it has started to mould the common social sense in the direction of reasserting the democratic rights. Over the last seven years it has been engaging in creating awareness of peace-building, communal harmony, human rights and justice issues and emphasizing alternative cultural traditions espousing secular values. ANHAD is working in Kashmir, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Orissa and Mumbai on the issues prioritizing according to the regional situations. ANHAD’S work is diverse in nature and the canvas of its activities very vast. The major areas of ANHAD Activities are:

o Organising Residential Training Camps for Communal Harmony and National Integration
