Protest Music
Protest Music is a new forum to share and discuss political and socially conscious music from around the world. Protest Music documents the sounds of social justice with reviews and reflections on the power of song. We’ll be writing about artists, tracks, albums, videos, documentaries, concerts, and anything else that catches our ear, with the goal of helping build momentum for music with a message. By focusing on music of conscience and dissent, we hope to raise the profile of lesser-known artists and heighten public recognition of protest music as a unique genre. We hope you enjoy our efforts.

Protest Music was conceived in 2011 as a project of Lokashakti Records, a nonprofit record label based in New York City promoting innovative and incisive political and socially conscious music. Part of a larger nonprofit organization, Lokashakti Records uses its proceeds to help fund the Lokashakti Network — a growing collection of mobile and online resources for activists. If you’d like to donate to our nonprofit and help support our work for peace and social justice, you'll find a link at the bottom of this page.
