Protest Art is a new online magazine promoting the political and socially conscious use of the visual medium. With a lot of evil shit out there to protest, it’s up to artists to stoke the embers of people’s political consciousness and fan the flames of discontent. In the same family as another new site, Protest Music, we share similar goals of aiming to bring about a resurgence of interest in using art for social change.
Our new site was created by a New York City-based nonprofit organization called Lokashakti, meaning “power of the people” in Sanskrit. In addition to promoting protest art, Protest Art also aims to promote Lokashakti, and its new social media site, the Lokashakti Network — a growing collection of online resources for activists working towards peace and social justice. We'd go into further detail, but chances are you've already heard of it.
If you’d like to donate to our nonprofit and help support what we do, there's a link at the bottom of the page. Otherwise, if you’d like to be in touch for any reason, especially if you’d like to write for Protest Art, you can do so by sending an email to email@example.com.
