Web design

Lokashakti is currently seeking designers at all levels of experience, interested in expanding their technical skills while assisting in the critical thinking, planning, and strategizing involved in creating social web services tailored to the needs of activists and activist groups. Designers should have excellent working knowledge of Adobe software, issues of browser compatibility, and front-end web development including HTML/CSS. They should also have experience designing for the web, as well as good intuition for general user experience.

Web development

This is a key position right now, as we're trying to project as large and growing an Internet presence as possible. Once funding becomes available, this will be the first to turn into a full-time paid position, as the importance of intelligent web design and implementation to what we're trying to do cannot be overstated. Ideal candidates will have intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of PHP and MySQL, as well as experience developing within Joomla! or comparable frameworks using MVC architecture. Developers should have a solid grasp on HTML/CSS and standards-compliant coding practices, and should have experience with JavaScript and jQuery.

Office intern

To staff this position we are currently looking for people with a passion for peace and social justice who find it easy to excel at whatever task is put before them. In addition to help with general fundraising and office management, candidates will assist in writing grants, creating web content, and implementing promotional strategies online, in person, and over the phone. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to gain valuable experience working with all aspects of a nascent and growing nonprofit organization. University credit will be made available.

Music intern

Since our founding in 2009 we’ve been working on ways in which music can help promote and fund Lokashakti. These have so far included a band, a record label, and a blog, all devoted to political and socially conscious music. This is the second time we’re offering a music internship, and we’re excited for candidates to help expand these non-traditional opportunities for promotion and fundraising. Applicants should possess excellent writing and organizational skills, as well as a strong interest in how music can be used to promote peace, social justice, and nonviolent social change. Prior musical or industry experience is helpful, but not necessary.  Writing sample required.

Art / lit / film internship positions - COMING SOON

In addition to our a Protest Music blog, which we launched in 2012, we've been planning a series of websites that all aim to promote various forms of cultural resistance around the world.  The first of these is Protest Art, which we intend to follow later this year with Protest Lit and Protest Film, each at their respective dot-org URLs. As with our Music intern position, applicants should possess excellent writing and organizational skills, as well as a strong interest in how these forms of culture are used to promote peace, social justice, and nonviolent social change. Prior art, literature, and film experience is helpful, but not necessary.
